Hello
I'm Fabrice Sapolsky, and I have been creating and publishing comics for over two decades. Although I was born in France, a place where comic books are considered a form of art, I have always had my eyes set on American comics. I moved to the United States in 2015. Some people know me as the co-creator and writer of SPIDER-MAN NOIR for Marvel Comics, but I have seven other graphic novels (as of 2025) and I run FairSquare Graphics, the only family, immigrant, and minority-owned comics publisher in America.
Some have called me "a unicorn" because I can write, draw, color, edit, letter, design, and publish my own material. However, I actually enjoy working with a team. Comics are a collaborative medium by design, and I am very happy to be a team player.
In addition to creating my own material, I am also available as a talent for hire. Whatever project you have, I would love to be a part of it. Don't hesitate to contact me!
I currently live in New York.
My Story
It all started in Paris, France, the city where I was born.
I fell in love with comics when I was around 8 years old. We were living in a suburb about 17 miles North West of Paris. And there was this newsstand on my way to school. I could see the shiny and colorful covers featuring Marvel and DC heroes from outside the shop. Until one day, I had enough money to get in and buy one. Then, I kept buying as much as I could afford it.
On TV, the classic Spider-Man cartoon was also frequently broadcasted, as well as Japanese anime like Grendizer and Captain Harlock.
By the age of 15, we were living in Paris and I could read english well enough to start collecting comics in their original form. At 16, I went to the US for the first time and brought back plenty of comics. At this stage, I had reached the point of no return.
Comics would become an intricate part of my life.
Through my 25+ years in publishing, I did it all. I served as Editor and packager for multiple companies in France, my home country, and the US including:
Albin Michel, Soleil, Glenat, Heavy Metal, Panini, Jungle Comics, DC Comics, Humanoids, Tapestry Productions and Ablaze Comics (to name a few).
In 1998, I founded my first publishing company, TSC, to release COMIC BOX, the first ever newsmagazine about comics in French language.
It was a hell of a ride. COMIC BOX died three times, had five different publishers but over 120 issues were released between 1998 and 2022. I was its editor in chief from the beginning until 2011. And though I'm not really working on it, I'm still somewhat connected to the team and I co-own the brand.
Late 2006, I approached my friend and very talented writer/cartoonist David Hine with a very weird idea: a Spider-Man character set in the 1930s and impacted by the Great Depression. Spider-Man Noir was born! Two years later, Marvel released the first issue and the rest is History.
But Spider-Man Noir was just the beginning. I started thinking bigger. Way bigger. And moved to the United States in 2015 with one goal: be a full time comic book creator. I started touring, drawing, editing, designing, lettering, translating and of course writing comics (still doing all that to this day!).
Besides Spider-Man Noir, I released seven creator owned graphic novels : ONE-HIT WONDER, INTERTWINED, LADY-BIRD, CLASSIFIED: THE BLACK BOX, INTERTWINED: THE LAST JEWISH DAUGHTER OF KAIFENG, THE BIG LIE, NO FUTURE and SHAKESPEARE'S VAMPIRES via my inclusive imprint FairSquare Graphics. My complete bibliography is here.
Founded in 2019, FairSquare Graphics develops, publishes and distributes original comic books and graphic novels, mostly from immigrants, minorities and under-represented creators of the world; an objective emphasized in our company’s mantra: “Stories from the rest of us”.
I'm also very invested in creator's rights. FairSquare Graphics offers unique deals to creators who join us and since we're putting our money where our mouth is, we designed a "color coded" system so anyone can see where we stand (details on the FairSquare Graphics website).
Recently, I've spent more and more time drawing and designing characters.
In 2018, I got to design the White Widow and the Shocker for Marvel's SPIDERGEDDON: SPIDER-MAN NOIR animated short. In 2020, I was asked to draw over a dozen illustrations for Tracy Sanders, ESQ.'s book NATURAL HAIR AND THE LAW.
In 2022, I was hired to draw NFTs for the Banana Ape Task Force. And I recently produced two original mascots for FITSLANA, the fitness/trainer company created by Lana Davis in L.A. My work was also published in the CTHULU IS HARD TO SPELL: BATTLE ROYALE anthology in the form of a four page story I wrote and drew. In June 2023, the GET OFFA THAT THING anthology will be released by Down & Out books. It contains a six page story I wrote and drew based on James Brown's "Living In America".
In 2025, as 'Tintin in the Land of the Soviets' became public domain in the United States, I created a Tintin-like character, The Belgian Reporter, and succesfully launched THE BIG LIE that I'm writing and partially drawing. My most ambitious project to date.
I'm also drawing variant covers for a flurry of publishers. In 2024, TopShelfComic.com gave me the opportunity to draw official TERMINATOR, TRANSFORMERS and [Image Comics']DEAD EYES covers.
I like to end my essays and messages with "To Be Continued", Which is very appropriate. :)
